Human Connection with the Dormant Sixth Element (Vastu Purush)
In the Vedic period of Treta yug (Silver age), Lord Shiva along with the devtas (Gods) was battling with a demon named “Andhakarasur” (Andhakar means darkness. Asur means Demon). (In essence, even today, the fight between light and darkness is not just external but deeply embedded in our existence).
In this event of battling some drops of sweat fell from Shiva’s body on earth which gave birth to a Mahabhoot (Maha=huge. Bhoot= demon). This Mahabhoot, unquenchable in its hunger, began to consume everything in its path across the three worlds—Aakaash, Paataal, and Prathvi (Space, Water & Earth). The devtas and asurs, both bewildered and horrified, quickly turned their suspicions towards each other, believing the creature to be a strategic tactic by their enemies.
But, when they realized the creature threatened them equally, fear spread among the celestial beings. In their desperation, they sought the wisdom of Lord Brahma. He clarified that this being was not a product of deception but an extension of Shiva’s essence—an eternal force representing the balance of creation and destruction. It is Shiva-Tatva (Element of Shiva) & it is an eternal entity.
Lord Brahma devised a plan. He instructed the devtas and asurs to unite, toppling the Mahabhoot and pinning it down with face downwards with their best combined strength. As 45 of them placed themselves on its massive form, each occupying a specific position, Brahma positioned himself at the center with full force.
The Mahabhoot, now restrained, pleaded for mercy. It expressed its confusion about its existence and its desire for food. He said: I am not responsible to be born (Even today, same thing stands good for all the creatures of the world). He asked Lord Brahma to release him as he was extremely hungry.
Brahma, recognizing its potential declared, “You are Shiv Putra (Son of Shiva). This land is yours. From this day forth, any demarcated land will be under your territory, and you shall be known as Vastu Purush.” From today onwards whosoever will demarcate this land or a piece of land for awaas, pravaas and niwas (Housing, foreign residence and dwelling) your autonomous kingdom will be self-established in that piece of land.
Therefore, Vastu Purush; in addition to 5 basic elements (Earth, fire, water, air & space) became the dormant living sixth element in our houses, factories, buildings and plots along with the 45 devtas on various designated areas. If the property is adequately constructed as per vastu principles, it makes the life of owners/residents peaceful, happy and prosperous. If the property is not as per the vastu, the Devta of that particular point loses force & struggles to pin that point and vastu purush erupts to get activated to eat the residents resulting in distress, toxic setbacks and disasters.
This principle of VASTU APPLICATION strongly endorses its use for gaining peace, happiness, prosperity, love, life and laughter despite of the modern day hectic lifestyle
Science of 5 elements, 45 devtas, their directional effects, defects and remedies is the science known as DEVTA VASTU SHASTRA.
